Frequently Asked Questions

The following are some frequently asked questions about Patient Choice. If you don’t find what you’re looking for here, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What is Patient Choice?

Patient Choice is a one-stop shop that gives registered medical cannabis patients across Canada flexible and convenient freedom to purchase their medicine from a range of different providers. Our goal is to provide you with convenient access to a broad variety of high quality and fairly priced medical cannabis from a range of producers.

Who runs Patient Choice?

The company behind Patient Choice is Empress Agri Sales Inc., a Health Canada Medical Sales License holder under the Cannabis Act. We’re a group of Western Canadians from different backgrounds who are passionate about leading the charge to create a fair and equitable new Medical Cannabis ecosystem that protects patients and supports craft producers.

How does it work?

We operate on a non-possession model, which means we don’t hold inventory. Products are delivered fresh and direct from producers to patients. That approach allows us to give patients access to a wide range of quality products, not just products from one licensed producer or those that sell a lot of volume. We’re especially proud of how our model gives craft producers a simple way to access the medical cannabis market regardless of their scale, so that medical cannabis patients have the widest possible freedom and choice.

How do I register?

It’s simple! Click here to go the registration page and get started. Or, if you’d rather we walk you through it by phone, just give us a call at 1.888.585.8890. We may need to video conference just to make sure it’s really you, though!

What if I don’t have a medical document?

No problem. Once you start the registration process, we’ll guide you through it. We’ve developed a detailed overview of what to do in different scenarios, but if you’re looking for the simplest way to see if medical cannabis is right for you, one good option is to talk to our friends at O’Cannabis Clinic.

Why is it called a medical document, anyway?

Good question! People often ask why it’s called a medical document, not a prescription. The answer is that prescriptions are written for medications that have a Drug Identifier Number (DIN), and cannabis does not currently have one in Canada.

Does Patient Choice serve veterans?

You bet we do! Our founders include veterans and first responders. We’re committed to helping veterans navigate the complexities of medical cannabis. We’re authorized to bill directly to Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) via Medavie Blue Cross Healthcare, and we will soon be rolling out a smooth process for veterans.

What should I do if my package is delayed?

Canada Post has been facing several challenges over the years, and the added complexity of COVID-19 has made things even tougher. We’re all spoiled by the logistical marvel that is Amazon Prime, but sometimes things take a few extra days. We are integrating additional shipping partners to get your medicine to you faster. If you’re worried about the status of your package, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Can I really buy plants and seeds from Patient Choice?

You sure can, as long as you’ve applied for and received your Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) production license, for either personal use production or designated-person production. Simply upload the ACMPR license to your registration profile and let us know, and we’ll allow you to order starting materials.

Where can I get my ACMPR license?

Our friends at O’Cannabis Clinic can assist you in applying for one if you wish – click here to set up an appointment.

I don’t want to smoke cannabis. Can I still use it for medical purposes?

Yes, you can. There are a variety of increasingly popular new options available to Canadians who want to use cannabis for medical purposes without smoking.

Oils and tinctures are taken orally. They are easy to measure with the included dropper, and make it easy for you to titrate your medication. Click here to check out some options on Patient Choice.

Edibles and beverages are dosed cannabis products that you can eat or drink. The market has changed significantly since edibles were legalized in October 2019, and there is an amazing array of edible products that are measured and dosed safely. Click here to check out some of the edibles and beverages available on Patient Choice – we’ll be adding more soon.

What is a vape?

A vape, or vaporizer, is a device used to vaporize substances for inhalation. You can read more about vapes on Leafly. A vape cartridge is a glass cartridge pre-filled with cannabis oil – typically a gram or half a gram. This oil contains various combinations of cannabinoids and terpenes extracted from cannabis. Click here to check out the vape products available on Patient Choice.

Where do I get a vape battery?

Vape batteries, or “510 thread” batteries are available at many online and brick-and-mortar retailers. Patient Choice does not currently sell vape batteries. However, this online store offers free shipping. If you’re looking for the best on the market, here’s a good option. If you’re looking for something more affordable, try this one.
